During the winter months, periodically we will travel to “SEABASE” to complete our open water certifications. Seabase is located in Grantsville, Utah and 35 – 40-minute drive from the Salt Lake City airport.
Seabasses’ joke is: “If we had a dollar for every scientist and expert who told us ocean life wouldn’t, couldn’t survive here, we would be rich”. In view of the variety of fish there (yes fish), it is obvious that it is the unique conditions of Seabase that allow the fish to survive, but only here, as the sole outlet turns to a stream of ever-increasing salinity or temperature until it dries up in the desert. Nowhere else could they live, but the ocean.
Seabase has 3 distinct bodies of water, that are geothermally warmed, but at three different temperatures and depths. White Rocks Bay (15′ and 72F), Habitat Bay (24′ and 64F) and the Abyss (62′ and 84F).
